HOLY COLONICS! I just booked a 7 day fasting detox retreat in Thailand

HOLY COLONICS! I just booked a 7 day fasting detox retreat in Thailand

In exactly 5 weeks from now, I’ll be hopping on a plane heading east.  The far east.  The fuel to get me there?  Veggies and lean protein.

A little background

A dear friend of mine had an amazing experience last year on the island of Koh Samui at The Spa Resorts.  She came back to Athens as a new person, both physically and mentally.  One night we sat out on my balcony and she told me everything and I was sold.  I needed to do this!

After hearing her story, even my husband was on board to try out fasting for 7 days.

Unfortunately with previously planned trips and prior commitments we were not able to find the time to do it.  You see, it is not just about going to Thailand and fasting while you are there… there is a special program before and after as well.  And this said program does not allow for all of the shenanigans that go along with weddings in Poland and such.

Thailand fast prep

The Pre-Fasting Period

You need to prep your body for this transition that is about to take place and clear out the digestive track.  (If intestines talk creeps you out- you may want to stop reading now)

10 days before, you need to cut:

  • Sugars (besides a few pieces of fruit first – on an empty stomach)
  • Processed foods
  • Starchy carbs
  • Dairy
  • Booze
  • Caffeine
  • Red meat (cut all meat 4 days before the fast)

I’ve done this before and it sucked.  I wouldn’t say it was difficult, but it just was boring.  I like a little variety in life!

I think this portion of the experience will be the hardest part for me.  I will be at home, living with my regular routine on a restricted diet.  BUT- I’ve done it before, so I can do it again!

The Post-Fasting Period

Pretty much the same as the ‘before’, but they start you off on broths and easily digestible foods for the first couple of days.  I will stay at the resort for three additional nights as I come off the fast.

I hope to be so happy with how I feel that the temptations won’t bother me after I finish with my time at the resort.  I am going to stop in Bangkok to catch up with friends and have them prepare me some steamed veggies.  PARTY!

So all in all– it will be about 1 month of eating how I know that I should be.  What a concept!  Well minus the 7 days in the middle where these is NO EATING.  That’s right muchachos y muchachas – no solid food.

I’m doing the First time cleanse.  Click the link, I don’t want to go into too much detail.  I think my post title is already cringe worthy enough.

A little reflection on this decision

This will probably be the craziest thing that I have done and something that I will be the most proud of myself for when it is all said and done.  I’ve heard it is an emotional roller-coaster of self reflection, so that should be interesting!

Haters will say it is a stupid thing to do because you will eventually go back to your previous habits, thus making the fast a waste of time and money.  I’m not going to never eat pizza again!  But I may think twice about it when it comes time to bust out my handy delivery app.

For me this is not about weight- it’s about the internal cleansing that will take place.  So when I do order that pizza, at least it will be digested in a spanking clean intestines.
